Good:The guide has multiple things going for it. Its very well organized for starters. It has sections for 7/14 day itinerary, must sees and day trips. I don't have kids but the book is very much oriented to a planner planning activities for kids.Could improve:Every destination needs to have an address. I use a smart phone and I need an address for my GPS. Some of the addresses listed in the book are old school road directions. They are my handicap.Don't really need the map bundled in the book. I would be surprised if anyone really uses themSome of the suggestions are dated. There are newer better places that people could visit. But the places listed in the book are still the must seeThis book needs to catch up to the world of Yelp, Groupon etc. It needs to mention that one can find a groupon for a tourist place etc. Maybe all old school pocket guides need to do it.

This guide really helped us plan a week of exploration, beach time, and food in Oahu.We found several good suggestions that allowed us to be off the main beaten path and make the most of our vacation.The only two small drawbacks are that at times it's hard to find what you are looking for (there are several cross references in the book),and the map in the back is not detailed enough to navigate the roads.I would definitively recommend it.

We had never been to Hawaii so this book provided a great overview. We referenced it a lot while there and it is small enough to carry along with lots of great information. I love that it is broken up into the day to day format so you can prioritize your sightseeing depending on how long you have to stay on the island. Frommer's has done a great job once again.

I bought this book previous to my trip to hawaii. I've used these books in the past and they are great. The gives you everything you need to know from the must popular spots to see to the unknown areas. It even tells you when certain attractions are closed, what their hours of operation are, or even the cost to get in. this is a very useful tool!

I recently spent a week on the island of Oahu with this book as my guide. I didn't encounter any wrong information and I really liked the map that came along with it. My only complaint is I wish it had named and reviewed a few more restaurants.

A very good basic guide book to Oahu. Gives many different options in exploring the island. It does repeat a lot of the information and if all the repeated info was taken out of the book would be about half of it's original size. It also lacks bus routes infor in getting to the sites, which would be beneficial.

This is the best book for beginner piano, self-teaching or with instruction.It has some easy songs to play with bass notes (left hand) and treble (right hand).And few or no sharps and flats in the music makes it easier for beginners. Being an absolute beginner, I thought this would be an easy step-by-step book that I could use to learn the basics. Yes, the basics are there, but for me it seemed that it could have been organized in a better way. I had a hard time following and the online access wasn't all that helpful.

This book is so easy to follow. Still wish I had an instructor for some things are a little confusing in regards to what is the best method to learn by the alphabets or the numbers that represent the alphabets, but you'll see what I mean. My 9 year old is learning quicker than me! Utilize the online video to help you practice! If you commit the time at least 30 mins or more everyday, I'm sure you'll pick it up faster!

An educational and sometimes engaging history of number theory's biggest problem and the many efforts it took to solve. Singh typically writes his unique histories for the casual layman (I've also read "The Code Book"), which makes them as accessible as possible. However, if you have much of any background in mathematics, you'll find a few of the explanations annoyingly simple. Just skim past those and keep on.

I could write a long paragraph explaining my love for this book but I think all the other (great) reviews show that pretty well. I usually read books slowly, about a few weeks to finish one. This book was an exception, I read it within a few days! As a math major, it gave this feeling of excitement that I haven't felt before. So one of the classes I decided to take this semester was Elliptic Curves!! If you're a math major, pick this book up ASAP!!! And if you're not, still pick it up as it tells the story of one of humanities greatest achievement of the 20th century.

I'd like to think of myself as good/above average in Math but never would I think that reading a book about an theorem unsolved for centuries and think I would either be remotely interested or able to follow the storyline. Singh has a unique ability, however, to distill the complicated to a very interesting and easy to understand storyline- so much so that you the reader honestly will feel as though it was obvious and you could in fact 'do' much of the mathematics involved. Makes a potentially dry topic into a great story - and deceptively teaches you a lot along the way. great read.

My first Singh book was "Big Bang" which was also excellent. He is phenomenal at weaving a massive story over a period spanning multiple millennium in a few hundred pages. He gives short bios on each major player, and tells interesting stories about their lives. His method keeps you on the edge of your seat, and what others would think would be a boring subject is indeed a page turner!Some of these mathematicians committed suicide, some were killed at an early age (Galois, mathematical genius dead at 20), others had to disguise their gender (Sophie Germain) due to discrimination. It's very interesting to learn about each character.Altogether a highly readable book on a journey to solving Fermat's Last Theorem.I read it in about 3 days (it's 300 pages), and maybe 15 pages discuss math that I don't understand (modular forms and elliptic equations), but it's very minimal and doesn't get in the way. It was mostly about the lives of these mathematicians and their struggles.If you are interested in learning about the lives of Pythagorus, Euclid, Euler, Gauss, Germain, Galois, Wiles, and countless others...Check it out.On a side note I would love it if Simon Singh wrote a book on the history of evolution. He is a master at simplifying very complex subjects.

Fermat's Last Theorem is the greatest riddle ever challenged by mathematicians spanning different centuries and different concepts and that's how this book is all about. Fermat's Enigma is truly one of the most dramatic reading where various mathematicians in real life are on a quest to solve the world's greatest mathematical problem where n represents 3, 4, 5...no solution. It has been quite as dramatic as reading a best-selling cult classic novel you all heard about but more importantly, it has given me several purposes that mathematicians tried and tried until they succeed in solving the greatest math problem we know as Fermat's Last Enigma. Of course, there has been some downfall faced by mathematicians, especially the men behind the Taniyama-Shimura conjecture, but this book I read is all drama without the fuss and thanks to such wondrous sources, I am more than welcomed to recommend reading this fascinating book to almost everyone who has a deep interests in mathematics. Solving Fermat's Last Theorem literally holds a very special place in the history mathematics and no matter how many mathematicians sacrificed themselves to solve this problem, only one had triumphantly solved it with the help of his trusted people in his life. Students, like us, are truly fascinated about what sort of mysteries lurking around the history of mathematics but this Fermat's Last Theorem we all read about in this book really hits the spot, literally.

I first came across "Fermat's Enigma" years ago while completing a Masters degree. I was doing research for a History of Mathematics class when this book grabbed my attention while sitting on the library book shelves. I checked it out, started reading and just found myself totally engrossed in the story, almost from the get go, and finished it in two days.The story of the solving of Fermat's Last Theorem contains almost all of the features that draw us to read books in the first place. What is super-interesting is this: though the story takes place within the mathematics field, it contained elements of fraud, murder, suicide...all in the pursuit of a seemingly elusive proof, based on an equation that, at first glance, seems so simple. And because almost all of us are familiar with the Pythagorean Theorem from our school days, the fact that over 350 years and hundreds of different mathematicians were needed to come up with the elusive answer just makes the story that much more fascinating.I now teach college mathematics and recently, noticed that one of my students was reading "Fermat's Enigma." It brought back fond memories and I desired to check it out again from the library to give the book another read. This time, it was not available...so I did what the student did: ordered my own copy from Amazon. It arrived today and I'm excited about having an entire weekend to once again visit the cast of characters and the engrossing saga that evolved over the centuries.Fantastic read! And highly recommended!

As noted by other reviewers, the author is a very good story-teller and has included many entertaining and--to some extent--informative vignettes in this book.I have lived in Moscow for many years and have been to many of the places mentioned in the book--unlike some other works I've read about Moscow, this author's descriptions and insights about places and events generally ring true. Moreover, he describes many interesting incidents/personalities that I was not previously aware of, so reading this book was certainly worthwhile for me. As a journalist, the author seems to have had a very good perch from which to observe a rapidly and constantly evolving Moscow.Some other reviewers have criticized the book for not enabling them to "understand" Russia any better. Don't expect to read this--or any other--book and come away with an "understanding" of Russia, but at least it might help readers appreciate why Russia is such a difficult place to understand.I enjoyed the book, so why not five stars? I had three basic concerns about the book:1) Russia, and Moscow in particular, evolves rapidly and is changing constantly. Therefore, many of the author's observations seem a bit dated at this point. The author generally doesn't provide much of a timeline in the book, so it is often hard to determine whether he is writing about 2002 or 2012. Moscow in 2014 is a very different place from Moscow 2002 or Moscow 2012;2) While many of the author's stories are very entertaining, the result is sort of a grotesque caricature of Moscow, which in fact is a huge and heterogeneous city, with millions of absolutely ordinary people very different from those described in this book. The author provides a good description of an interesting but freakish "froth" of people that provide good copy, but creates an impression that they, rather than ordinary citizens, define the city (which, admittedly, they do to some extent...). Therefore, as you read this book, bear in mind that millions of people are taking the subway/bus to work every day as book keepers, lawyers, account managers, etc., pretty much like everywhere else in the world...3) In a few instances, the author seems to overdramatize things a bit. For example, he goes on and on about the constant fear of having your "documents checked", etc. In fact, I don't think I've had my "documents checked" even once in the last several years, and it is certainly not something I'm worried about (this kind of thing was indeed more common several years ago, hence my comment about some observations being somewhat dated...).

A (highly readable, personalized) lesson in an multidirectional mass political subversion and social engineering through media and systematized corruption that you hope can't possibly be as intentional and capable as it seems to be - and the whole time you sense that you are peeking behind the curtain of your own existence; just a glimpse.God help us.

Pomerantsev began writing about his Russian experiences in 2011. His experience with the Russian media ran from 2001 to 2010. As the son of dissident Russian parents who left in 1978, his knowledge of the language gave him an entry into that world. The book came out in 2014. While The material is serious and very pertinent to today's international political world, the book's style gives researchers an easy start to understanding the complexity. I also recommend a web search. I recommend the book and have purchased copies to hand out.Fake news is a hot topic and here we see how it is planted and politically used in detail in a post-modern authoritarian world. There is information showing how crony capitalism or modern fascism is opposed to the free market when government can take over businesses and put them in the hands of partners as governments change laws to fit the new situations. The Russian oligarchs are detailed and it is shown how money is laundered through the political West. There are stories of the Russian modeling world and how these models have only a short number of working years during which to find their "Forbes." Want to learn how religion is used as a tool to bond followers to the government? And, oh yes, New Age cults have found a new sucker base.Afterwards, read the works of Soviet dissidents to see how dictatorships haven't changed but are just modernized.

My interest in the book had to do with the author's insight into social control in the age of social media.Here in America, too, the importance of "post-factual" politics is driving a change in how we think of truth, morality, justice, and what a good life might look like. Pomerantsev's book examines this phenomenon in the hyperreal context of Moscow as he sees it. Never having been there, and not speaking enough Russian to find the bathroom, I can't judge his perceptions of Moscow. But his understanding of political manipulation in the age of the selfie and of Twitter seem to me to have been prescient about the weird turn that U.S. politics took in 2016.

I realize it is intended for a young audience, but when you are giving such a little bit of information about each president, I would have highlighted the most important things. Take for example the entry on John Quincy Adam's which includes the fact that he didn't win the popular vote (important), with mostly other very trivial facts, like his swimming naked in the Potomac and the rather subjective statement that "like his father before him, John Quincy Adams got on many people's nerves." Nothing about what he accomplished for the good of the country is included. I prefer Ken Burns's book Grover Cleveland Again, which is more difficult, but contains more substantial information. Also, I don't like cartoon drawings only. A real picture of each president would help kids remember faces better.

I absolutely love this book about the presidents. It has the right information that keeps my childs interest and even has me learning new stuff. There is a fun fact (or two) about every president. And the illustrations make it fun for the kids too. My kids pick this book as a bedtime book.

This says *updated* but it stops at Obama. Just a heads up to anyone looking to purchase. Other than that it’s a very kid friendly way to learn about our nations leaders

My son loves it (4 year old). The only caveat, I added some real pictures of the presidents and glued them on top of the cartoons that are showed in the book. I also learned very interesting things about the presidents.

My son has been fascinated with history, especially Abraham Lincoln. He loves weird facts and learning new things others don't. This book has bypassed his plants vs zombies, his hilo books and other comic books he's been reading. He loves it!! He is in second grade.

My son enjoyed the book but I was annoyed to see it mentioned that bill Clinton lying a out his affair. I do not want my young child knowing this information.
