I pre-ordered this book 5 months ago and have been waiting patiently ever since for it to arrive. I laughed, I cried, and before I knew it I was reading the very last page just a few short hours after opening the Amazon box it arrived in today. If you are as big as a Journey and Jonathan Cain fan as I am you need to read this book!

This well written book is not just a rock bio. Yes, it’s certainly that, with a lot of interesting history and current history of the band journey. But more than that, Jonathan’s story will surprise and move you. A story about not giving up. About family. About overcoming mistakes and the horrible things that can go wrong in life. So glad for this book and the things you learn and the inspiration it brings. And it takes you right back to that great music.

Enjoyed this book very much! Jonathan is very open and candid about everything from his childhood, to life on the road and the pitfalls of that lifestyle. He also comes across as a very humble man whose heart has truly been touched by God. And, if you are a die hard Steve Perry fan, as I am, you wont be disappointed! Jonathan speaks of Steve with the utmost respect!

Being a long, long time Journey fan since my high school days in the 80’s, Jonathan’s book opened up a whole new side of the band that forever-fans like myself are grateful for. I loved everything from the origin of the songs to the rock n roll truth that we hear happens with that kind of lifestyle. Of course hearing about the comings and goings of all the different band members was like opening up old wounds for this die hard fan but it was memory lane with a smile for me. Not having an ounce of musical talent myself, the technical talk of the music industry was a little slow for me. Having followed Journey and Jonathan all these years I was of course not surprised about the spiritual content and his raw openness about his newly re-found Christianity. His honesty and love for our God is inspiring to all who are not afraid to share their faith, and also for those who are. Could not put the book down and cannot wait to see Journey on tour again this year! Much love Jonathan.

It was like looking at a gorgeous steak dinner, taking a bite and finding it had no seasoning and in fact no taste. Cain only brushes the surface of his life--as in "first this happened, then that happened." There are no interesting anecdotes, no insights and huge changes and transitions are brushed over. What a disappointment. Where the heck was the editor? Every good book has a climax and stuff the person learned. Not Cain.... instead of insights, everything that happened was "God's blessing." Yes, Cain has found God and like a reformed smoker, EVERYTHING is about that. I love Journey. I got little insight into the group. Cain is a talent. I got absolutely NO insight into him or his life or his lessons. If he, himself, had any, he surely didn't share it here. don't bother with this one. You can Google just about everything he has in it.

Waited for this to be published as I have read over 2 dozen rock bios/autobios in the last year (I am a musician as well). Was impressed to learn how many of the Journey songs Jon co-wrote over the years and his story of failed marriages and ups and down financially matched many of the other books by other rock stars (it's a tough life). I was surprised however by the heavy Christian theme that ran throughout the book. A pro musician's life brings many challenges and temptations as well so it's easy to understand a leaning towards seeking the meaning of its ups and downs and feeling his life guided by a divine source, but as that it not my way of thinking, I fast forwarded through those pages. However, his successes and many songs that have touched millions are admirable and I am glad he has found happiness.

Right away you could label this another rock and roll,ritches to rags to ritches again story...or you could be opened minded and see that these people can be human like the rest...full of flaws and talent..Jon carries his midwest upbringing with him while he carried a heavy load for Journey....He always had to be bearer of bad news as well documented before the book...He also was the main writer during their commercial peak. He was truly was a person who got what he wished for (success) and the price that was paid for it..a good read...
