This is THE book on the history of the XR-750. Fantastic book by a fantastic author. It loses a star though for the terrible reproduction of photos. They look like old 1970s photocopies of photocopies. All black and white inside, they are mostly murky and blurry. As if the original book was scanned in and laser printed -- which may well explain the cheap price compared with the mad prices that used copies of the 1991 original book sell for today. A bit disappointing because it is hard to see the nitty gritty tech details in the photos, which a book like this is much about.Overall, though, a great read. It is more about the history of the bike's and the excitement of racing the big dogs than about specific technical detail of exactly how each engine was made to produce more power. No actual cam timings or port shapes. But lots of general details on both the factory bikes and improvements made by outsiders and some of the world's best tuners.
This is a very thorough, informative and entertaining history of Sportsters from their inception through 1994, and a must-read for anyone who loves Sportsters. As someone who is considering buying a Sportster for his/her first Harley, however, it wasn't much help because the latest models covered were 20 years ago. Despite that, I found the book to be a fascinating read.
I don't know what the other people are talking about that the front picture is the only good quality. The book is full of great photos and info, my husband loves this!
Great history of the XR750 and shows how screwed up Harley Davidson was and still is. I would give it five stars but the pictures as others have noted SUCK! At the price of this book I would expect better.
arrived fast and in perfect shape! looked all thru it right away and it is as perfect as a brand new one can be! I'm very happy! And the content is great, it covers a bit of pre-sixties up to a bit of post-sixties. clear, crisp pics are all very cool and nice. It's just a great book!

Very good book. But the picture used on the front is of the FXSTS softail is NOT in the book! only a 1984 fxst. I bought this book for more info on the springer but nothing in here.
Decent informational resource item. Photos, paper, and binding are quite good for a paperback book.
