The heroine, at 15, is just too young to promise to spend eternity with someone. She's been traumatized by the death of her parents, which was gruesome. Suddenly, she's in love and ready to give up everything--and she's too immature to know what it is she wants to give up. The hero, a god, is as immature and just barely holding back from seducing an underage child. She's jail bait, but as a god, I guess it's okay for him to sneak into her bedroom at night. We're talking sex offender territory. Her friend is apparently a victim of abuse (probably sexual) by a drunken father, but everyone, including the mother expects her to forgive and forget, I mean he's off the booze, so can't he have a second chance????--so the heroine gives her something that makes her invisible? It doesn't work that way. Neither does the way that everyone tiptoes around the death of her parents, the suicide of of another friend's mother, and hand massages and shampoos by goddesses---nah! The whole "promise them a redhead and a virgin" stuff doesn't fly in my book--well, er, in this book. And then everybody pushing her to murder someone, even if the proposed victim is a killer. There are a lot of misused words. I kept hoping this would get better, but find, on writing this review, that I'm distinctly uncomfortable with many of the themes. I'm not planning on reading the sequels.

The elements for a great story was there, it just was not executed properly. The story line moved slow and the writing was weak with pointless details that did nothing but bore more ... I found myself re-reading chapters over because my mind was dulled and I was not able to grasp what was going on. I was unable to even finish the entire novel.

I'm sorry, but I was extremely disappointed by this. The jumping from reality to dreamworld was annoying, and could have been better demarcated. The characters were... Juvenile. Which would be understandable as they are teenagers (the lead is what, 15?) except we are supposed to believe the lead is mature enough to (a) fall in love, and (b) be both willing to kill to avenge her parents while also realizing that isn't the answer. And let's not get started on the fact we have an immortal willing to marry a freaking child. Ew.Will NOT be recommending or reading further. As an aside, can we address the poor writing skills of this person in charge of teaching writing?

I really wanted to like this book. My score has nothing to do with Ms. Pohler's writing, but with the content of the book. I believe it's advertised as YA, but as I read it, I found that it's not a book I would allow my daughters to read. There was language that we've chosen not to use in our home, and at least one heavy intimacy scene. There is not sex, but I felt that it was a little too "romantic" for my tastes. The main character is a 15-year-old girl. I have a 14-year-old daughter and there is no way I'd want her doing the things this character did. I debated on writing this review because I didn't want to be negative against the author. I thought the story line was creative and fun, and I enjoyed the writing. However; it just wasn't as clean as I had hoped for a YA fiction.

This book has a certain cheese-fest factor and the writing is pretty bad, but I liked this book and would have given it a higher rating if it hadn't been for those things. It had great characters. Maybe not the deepest or most fleshed out, but I really liked the heroine and hero. They're sweet, but strong and I really found myself rooting for them and wanting to see what happens next. The plot was entertaining and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. However, the writing was bad. It got better towards the end of the novel, but mostly I found it to be a very dry style. It simply described what was happening in a very straightforward manner with little embellishment and emotion. While that works some times, it felt clunky. The best example I can think of is when the heroine meets up with her friends for the first time, we are given a brief description of all three of them. The description is just tacked on after they each say something and consists of just a few words, such as their hair color and one other main feature like "He was blonde and had acne." Okay, it was a little more than that bare bones, but not by much. And while it described the emotions of the characters, the writing itself didn't have much feeling to it.The POV shifts throughout the book between the hero and heroine, which I liked because it's rare that we get a hero's POV in a YA paranormal romance, but there were times when it got a little muddled towards the end and there were times when I wasn't sure which POV I was seeing.I thought this was fun and sweet enough that these issues didn't bother me as much, since I liked the plot and characters. I'm hoping that since this is one of the author's first published books that the writing will catch up to the story.

Although I liked the story and the worlds that were created in this novel, the writing was, at times overly simplistic. Therese's dialog often consists of similarly formed and repetitive sentence structures, an over explanation of simple concepts abound, and repetitively tragic things happening around the character that came to be expected.I read through the whole thing because I was curious about what was going to happen, but I cringed many times along the way regarding the various character's motivations or actions. I would have loved this book when I was younger (middle school, maybe high school) but it can be a little cringe-worthy at times if you're older (I'm 25 at the time of writing this). It's a good read for a free book and I might recommend it to the kids in my life, especially to those that like YA novels with Greek mythology and romance thrown in, but I don't think I'll be continuing the series... at least until I'm REALLY in the mood to see what happens with Than and Therese.Anyways, thank you for the lovely story and your attention to detail on the Greek gods and Mount Olympus as well as for the beautiful worlds you had crafted.
