Very comprehensive. I appreciate that Alcorn is aware of when he is speculating versus when he is stating something that is clear from Scripture. He touches on many things that are not commonly discussed in churches and Sunday school. Overall, I found it very helpful in expanding my thinking about heaven. I want to stress that it's not just something he makes up, but his ideas are mostly, if not all, grounded in one or more verses from the Bible. I'm sure it's near impossible to agree with everything he says, especially with a book that is as long as this one is, but I think most thoughtful Christians will feel positive about this book.Very readable, not overly scholarly or esoteric.
I have the full size book, but wanted pocket size for a funeral and family members who won’t invest in the actual book. The booklet is the perfect size and answers a handful of questions- perfect for wetting the appetite
This booklet highlights the main themes of the original book. Randy Alcorn has taken the major questions people ask about Heaven, and uses Scripture to provide answers. I found this booklet very interesting and biblically correct. If you just want the major themes of the complete book, purchase this!
Very concise, but the original book has far more info. I think of this attractive 4" X 6", 60 page booklet, is a handy study review of the main book. I chose not to get the Kindle version because the booklet form is easier to share with others in a small group.
This is the most complete explanation of Heaven this side of...well...Heaven. Christians are so under-informed about the very eternal destination that God has promised believers. It makes little sense to me that I should not preparing for this next life...an everlasting life, for the last decades of this all-to-quickly passing existence. So I'm studying up!! Randy Alcorn has certainly listened to God's Words in this amazing book. Read this along with C. S. Lewis's book "The Great Divorce" and you'll have a completely new appreciation of your future home.
Alcorn does not really refer to "playing twenty questions" but he addresses about twenty questions, such as "What will heaven be like?" and "What will we do in heaven?" That's one of my favorite questions he addresses, because he addresses what some people think of as a "boring" heaven, saying we will continue to learn, grow closer to God, work and glorify God with trades and ways to build up the kingdom of God. I like the way he talks about the present and future heaven. I have enjoyed using this booklet, a shorter version of Randy Alcorn's longer book by the same title, to hand out to people who come to my church and get assistance, etc. The book is written in Q & A style, so it is very helpful in answering basic questions about the biblical teachings on heaven. While the Bible says a lot about Heaven, there is much mystery, and one good thing about Alcorn is that he doesn't go too far in speculating, only what he believes the Bible can back up. Lots of things that are unexpected and metaphysical yet connected to physicality in the book. For example, on page 37, to the question, "Will time no longer exist in Heaven?" he says, "We will live for eternity as finite beings. God, who is timeless, can accommodate ourselves to timelessness because that is a condition of infinity."
Aside from the Good Book, Randy Alcorn's Heaven is my favorite book. Randy Alcorn has taught me much about my future home and although you may not agree with everything he says, his book will very likely make you think deeply and smile often. If you're not up for a 500-pager with tiny font, I recommend his 60-page booklet. There are many who have misunderstandings about Heaven, and this booklet can provide you solid answers supported by Scripture.
