Jared is a fantastic author and has lined up the all-star cast of Catholic men to discuss their given areas of expertise. The book discusses every necessary part of being a complete Catholic man. Porn, prayer, intellect, you name it, Jared's book covers it.Listen, you wouldn't read a "how to" on ice cream making from a water filtration expert. Likewise, you don't want a watered down book that is supposed to speak to men, from a boy. Jared is a real man, and so are his guest authors. I enjoyed this book very much and hope you choose to Man Up! as well.
I read Man Up to gain some knowledge on Catholic Manhood. What I received was infinitely more valuable. I was inspired, challenged and validated. Jared Zimmerer's editorial and writing skills, though they are admirable, are nothing compared to his evangelizational wisdom. The writers he chose presented thoughtful essays on intriguing topics, all of which were timely and provocative. Not since "Be A Man" have I read a book that was this power packed when speaking of Catholic Manhood. I consider this volume(hopefully there will be a Vol 2) to be a integral part of my ever expanding library. It sits onthe shelf with "Saints Among Savages", "Jesus Living Trhough Mary" and "Man and Woman He Created Them".,
Condition excellent. Highly recommended book for the men in the would and those they love. their job doesn't stop at bringing home a pay check. active family involvement is needed for those married and dating. if you want your relationships to work.especially the women and children in your life. There is no hands off policy, if you want your family to grow in love and moral behavior and feel appreciated.
This is a great book for any man who wants to increase his faith and his need to be a real man in our day and time.
This excellent Catholic Christian primer covers many areas of life, and culminates in a great truth: "that men need to measure their fulfillment in terms of their relationships...that fidelity to the truth, especially in acts of conscience, constitutes the true dignity of a man...that humility teaches us that true virility and masculine strength is fundamentally an interior reality, as the full development of all the Christian virtues, and this is the way to leave a positive mark on history, serving the Church in the humility that is prompt to accede to every indication of God's Will."
This book was sent to an inmate in jail...it circulated and everyone took turns reading selections from it.
Some of the essays were good, others just so-so. It provided a nice vehicle for discussions with a men's group at my church, but I don't see it finding a permanent place on my shelf.
In a world which sees moral relativism becoming the norm, a society which seeks self gratification, finally Jared Zimmerer has published a book along with eleven other contributors that seeks to address this rapid decline. Jared begins the book with a chapter that sets the tone for the rest of the book "Where have all the good men gone". This chapter highlights man's dire need for inner conversion, its a challenge for men in our societies today to return to authentic masculinity through the Catholic Church. Throughout the book a clear pathway is discussed which will illuminant the hearts and minds of all men around the world. I found the book offers an in depth reflection on man's vocation in life. We may not all share the same vocation but our ultimate desire is the search for truth and meaning. As scripture says the truth will set you free. The many chapters contained in Jared's book reveal the crisis which prevails among our communities, in many cases men seem to have lost their identity and also their meaning of the word responsibility. Whether were married, single or responding to God's call in life this book is an excellent source to raise our awareness. As a seminarian Jared's book is rich in scripture quotes which illuminant the chapters. I highly recommend this book to both lay men and those in ministry, we can never become compliance, self awareness is key to spiritual growth. Another key group in society that Jared seeks to assist is the "Man-Boy" many have lost direction in their lives. The chapter "Those Who Came Before Us" reminded me of the rich heritage of those men who were not afraid to stand up for their faith. We need men today to accept the challenge that Jared ask's off us, to be like the men gone before us.Through the Church sacraments, men can reignite their love of God and Family to become those true disciple's which our communities so urgently need.During the book two words were constantly speaking to me "Virtue" and "Humility", both essential for today's society.While some may find Jared's book a challenge, we must remind ourselves that an openness to challenge provides opportunities for personal growth. Jared's book offers those who read it a renewed sense of hope, that men will seek out a relationship with their creator. I'm reminded of the words Jesus spoke "I have come to give you life, that you should live it to the full", Jared's new book offers us that new life which can only be found in our heavenly father.
